Jerr-Dan 5 Ton Steel Shark on Peterbilt 335 Chassis

Presented here is the Jerr-Dan 5 Ton Steel Shark recovery body mounted to a Peterbilt 335 chassis. The model is an amazing piece of engineering with a very realistic look and feel with opening engine bay, opening cab and storage compartment doors and tilt and slide rear deck.

The cab is an excellent casting with roof mounted chrome air horns and amber lights, self fit rear view mirrors which fit easily and an opening engine compartment revealing the fully replicated engine block within. One nice touch is the rope engine cover straps which stop the engine cover from falling to far forward.
The front grill has an intricate photo etched pattern with chromed front bumper and painted engine locks and Peterbilt logo.

The fully modelled cab interior is finished in a light tan colour with contoured seats and fully detailed dashboard with printed guages. The cab doors can be opened but there is nothing to get hold of so they can be tricky to open if they are a tight fit.

The level of detail on this model is incredible, with an intricate pattern cast into the exhaust stack, diamond plating on the cab steps and photo etched mesh safety screen just some of the details found on the model. The winch fitted to the deck has a knurled wheel allowing the rope to be unwound smoothly by turning the wheel with your thumb.

The rear mounted control consoles are fitted to each side of the chassis and the levers can be moved into position as required. There are tiny printed details explaining the function of each control level on the console and this is an example of the level of realism that has been achieved on the model.

The towing bar can be lowered and will extend telescopically and rotate from side ot side. The car wheel clamps are stored in the holders on the rear chassis and can be inserted into the towing bar, as shown in the picture above.

The underside of the model features all the details of the full sized vehicle including the replicated drive train from the front engine to the rear axle. The hydraulic hoses have been added and the front axle features working steering.

The rear axle has functional suspension with realistic looking rubber tyres with detailed road tread pattern. The mud flaps are made from flexible rubber and have the Jerr-Dan name printed onto the lower edge.
The top section of the deck has a very realistic looking warning strip lense with photo etched mesh safety panel fitted to the frame.

The rear deck slides smoothly along the frame and the twin hydraulic cylinders are stiff enough to hold the deck at any chosen angle. The small amber warning beacons are painted on the deck sides with the Jerr Dan nameplate prominently displayed along with the silver finish edge sections with tie-down cut-outs.

The large and small storage compartments mounted to the chassis have opening doors which use friction to stay closed.
The model is securely packed in a two piece polystyrene carton with printed cardboard box and a small brochure is included which gives details of the real vehicle.
